Rhodri Davies: lle y bwriaf angor (1997)
‘lle y bwriaf angor’ is a graphic score that I designed using my father’s typewriter at his shop over the summer holidays. Rather than serving customers, as I should have been doing, I spent my time deleting symbols with correction fluid and then running across the road to enlarge and reduce the symbols using a photocopier. I used the resulting score as core material to create further scores for ensembles that I was playing with at the time: IST (with Simon H. Fell and Mark Wastell), Assumed Possibilities (with Phil Durrant, Mark Wastell and Chris Burn) and The London Improvisers Orchestra. These groups, although primarily interested in free-improvisation, also had an interest in working with semi-composed, graphic scores and verbal pieces. The title roughly translates as ‘where I throw my anchor’.
